Thermoforming is referred to as either male or female.
This refers to the method of the stretching of the sheet over the mold.
Male forming in which the sheet is formed "on" the mold and must be pulled "off" upon removal.
A tool which is designed as a Female configuartion is when the sheet is formed "in" the mold
and must be taken "out" when the cycle is complete. Other forming techniques allow for
the mold to either be above or below the sheet during the forming cycle.
Patterns and textures can be achieved, as well as logos and alphanumeric details.
Tooling costs and delivery times are relatively low. Tooling design and mold construction
are performed in-house. Vacuum and Pressure forming tools do not increase in cost
proportionally as they increase in size.
